Some time before their 8th birthday, Vergil and Dante were each given half of the Perfect Amulet by their mother. Vergil and Dante were close since childhood and trained swordsmanship by their father, but living mostly with their mother. Vergil was the son of the legendary demon knight known as Sparda, and a human woman named Eva, as well as being the older twin brother of Dante.

In Japanese version, he is voiced by Hiroaki Hirata in most of his appearances (who also voiced Sanji from One Piece franchises), and by Shōhei Namba in Sengoku Basara vs.

Vergil and Dante rarely help out together especially when they're in battle, but on rare occasions, the two have assisted each other. When their mother had died, Vergil pursued his own path of obtaining his father's demonic power and so created a conflict between him and his brother. He is the older son of the Dark Knight Sparda and the human Eva, as well as Dante's older twin brother. He also appears as a playable character in the Special Edition of Devil May Cry 3, Devil May Cry 4 and Devil May Cry 5. He appears as the secondary antagonist in Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening and Devil May Cry, and the overarching antagonist in Devil May Cry 5.

Vergil, later also known as Nelo Angelo as well as split halves V and Urizen, is one of the main antagonists in the Devil May Cry franchise.
